As of 2012, there were 200 Foursquare churches in Ecuador, with 32 in Guayaquil alone. During the sixty-first General Assembly of the Church in November of 1968, Bishop Patterson was elected the first Presiding Bishop of the Church Of God In Christ, making him the spiritual leader of the 3.5 million followers of the church.
